Big Village IT was founded by Wayne Kimes in 2009.

Wayne Kimes has over 20 years of experience supporting small and micro-businesses in both the San Francisco Bay Area of California and Austin, Texas. Wayne is a Certified Microsoft Engineer (MCSE), Certified Novell Engineer (CNE), and a Cisco Certified Network Administrator (CCNA).

Wayne’s first exposure to computers was in 1984, integrating a Radio Shack computer into the family owned café, pricing out menus and calculating payroll on VisiCalc (the predecessor to Microsoft’s Excel).

Wayne continued to assist friends and other business owners with their computer needs informally for five years – these were the early days, no Windows and no Internet, until 1990, when he decided to dive in earnest doing IT Support. He earned his Novell Engineer’s Certification in 1992 and worked with many small businesses installing and maintaining their Novell Server and DOS/Windows workstations. With the popularity of Microsoft Servers emerging, Wayne started installing and maintaining these as well, and earned his Microsoft Engineer certification in 1998. About this time Wayne took a position as IT Manager for Bigge Crane and Rigging, an international crane sales and services company, overseeing an annual IT and telecommunications budget of $500,000 and IT services and training for 200 employees and four remote offices. The management of remote offices and use of routers and firewalls encouraged Wayne to earn his Cisco Administrators Certification.

Wayne left Bigge in 2002 to return to small business consulting and in 2004 with his wife, Juliette, moved to the Austin area and opened an office in Wimberley, Texas.

In 2006 Wayne took a position with Vintage IT Services (one of Austin’s largest IT Support Providers) as a Network Engineer and then Technical Services Manager.

In 2008 Wayne decided that he thought there was a better way to deliver IT Services to Austin’s businesses and left to start his own company – Big Village IT.
